Casey Saxton

Congratulations to Casey Saxton who was selected as "Wyoming High School Journalist of the Year". He is a student, and student body president, at Cokeville High School. Casey and I worked together on a project last year, compiling a town newspaper for Cokeville's Pioneer Day's Celebration. (Ok so I really just asked Casey to put the newspaper together after a Councilman Charles Dayton asked me to get a hold of Casey).

My twelve year old calls Casey "the bomb". When I ask why, I get, "because he is!" Well, that makes sense.

Casey even emailed me once just to say he'd found a blog I do on Cokeville and he liked it, and he thanked me for doing it. (Can you imagine a high school student thanking an adult for a blog?) Again, congratulations Casey.

Wyoming at ISU Education Job Fair

Yesterday I drove to Pocatello, Idaho to pick up my husband from Idaho State University at an Education Job Fair he had been recruiting at. I had never been to a job fair before and it was very interesting. However, I got home and realized that I really blew it. There was all this great "stuff" going on at Idaho State University, you know, college life stuff. There was a brass band playing in the student union building. There was of course the job fair, although it didn't seem to be that well attended. And there was the students, everywhere! It was so exciting to be back in a college atmosphere, even only briefly. I was shocked, really, at how young they looked. Could some of these kids actually just be on campus visits from high schools? And all the cell phones and laptops, open on all the tables. When I graduated from USU in 1993, I had never used email and don't think we even had internet in student labs. We were expected to type our reports and I used the computer labs quite often for that. No one had a cell phone and I doubt anything was ever video recorded. (Hope not). Now, you get video recorded with cameras and phones! Anyways, with all the activity, I got excited and side tracked! And, I blew a great article for this WYOMING FLAVOR BLOG.

There were 4 Wyoming school attending the job fair, Cokeville, Lyman, Mountain View and Lander. I could have taken photographs of all the different booths and picked up their information on the different school districts. That would have been a great Wyoming Flavor blog post. Comparing starting salaries in different parts of the state and listing the different positions available! I have learned and won't let the opportunity slip past me again. Instead, I did a short video of the brass band and took some campus photographs. Good thing I have no readers yet. Still learning!
